J&K Wushu team shined in Senior National Wushu Championship and clinched 7 medals which was organized at Police Academy Bhopal from December 4 to 10.
Rajinder Singh, World championship medallist and State Awardee retained the title for 5th consecutive times, whereas Riya Chib clinched silver medal and Ishant Singh, Showket, Maqsood, Abhijeet Slathia and Naveed Farooq bagged bronze medals in the championship.
J&K remained at 5th place in the medal tally. Kamraan, Wasif Khan, Abhishek Jamwal, Rajat Charak lost quarter final bouts. The performance of the J&K Wushu team remained outstanding during the championship. Ajay Paul Gill, Irfan and Yash accompanied the team as coaches.
Secretary J&K Sports Council congratulated all the medallists, coaches and the Wushu Association of J&K for the commendable job. She assured that the Government will provide better facilities to the Wushu sports in order to bring more laurels for the UT.
She also congratulated junior medallists who were selected for the National Wushu coaching camps for the forthcoming Youth Asian Games.
President, Vijay Saraf and Kuldeep Handoo (Dronacharya Awardee) thanked Secretary J&K Sports Council for providing the best facilities to the Wushu sports, enabling them to exhibit their best at the highest podium.
Kuldeep Handoo apprised the Secretary that five players in junior and four players in seniors have been shortlisted for the National Wushu coaching camp for the Youth Asian Games.
Office bearers of Wushu Association including Yogesh Sawhney (patron) Ranjeet Kalra (vice-president) Deepak Handa (vice-president) and many others were present during the event.
