GCET Jammu Celebrates International Women’s Day

JAMMU: Govt. College of Engineering & Technology, Jammu today organized a series of events in order to commemorate “International Women’s Day- 2022” under the banner of Azadi ka Amrut Mohotsav.

The event was held under the patronage of Principal Prof. (Dr) Sameru Sharma. She said that International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on 8th March to recognise the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women but also calls for more action to be taken on improving gender equality. The event celebrates women’s achievements and raises awareness about women’s equality and lobbies for accelerated gender parity.

The event started with door to door campaign on women empowerment in the nearby village of Chack Bhalwal which was flagged off by the Principal of the college. The students and staff of the college interacted with the working women and discussed the various issues regarding their family and their workplace.

The student and staff also visited middle school Chack and aware the girl students and staff about women empowerment. The second event was a debate competition on the theme “Gender Equality today for Sustainable tomorrow”organised by NSS volunteers. More than 60 students witnessed the event out of which nine students participated in the competition.

The whole programme was convened by Dr. Veena Rani (HOD Humanities) and Er. Sanjeev Gupta (HOD Mech. Engg.) and coordinated by Dr. Raman Gupta (NSS Programme Officer).

The other staff members including Mr. Amit Pandoh, Neeraj Gupta, Meenakshi Gupta, and Tammana Ansari also aware the women on this eve.

The principal of the college congratulated all the staff members and students for organizing such kind of awareness programmes.
