Assembly Elections 2022 Polling Live Updates: Opposition indulging in politics even on Ukraine crisis, PM Modi says at rally in Varanasi

Manipur, Uttar Pradesh Elections Live Updates: On the last of campaigning before Uttar Pradesh heads towards the seventh and final leg of a long-drawn election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday is addressing a public rally in Varanasi. During the rally, Modi said that the Opposition was indulging in politics even on Ukraine crisis. Modi said that he is confident that the BJP will form the government in Uttar Pradesh.

Two people were killed in separate incidents of poll related violence as voting is underway in the last phase of polling in Manipur. The first incident took place in Thoubal district and the second in Senapati district.

Manipur on Saturday recorded a voter turnout of 47.16 per cent till 1 pm, according to data put out by the Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur. Chandel recorded 48.95 per cent, Jiribam recorded 49 per cent, Thoubal recorded 47.48 per cent as of 1 pm on Saturday. The electoral fate of 92 candidates in 22 constituencies across six districts will be decided in this phase of voting.  A total of 8.38 lakh voters are eligible to cast their votes in the districts of Thoubal, Chandel, Ukhrul, Senapati, Tamenglong and Jiribam in this phase, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Rajesh Agarwal said. Repoll in some areas of Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Imphal East districts — where EVMs were damaged by miscreants during the first phase of voting on February 28 — will also take place on Saturday, the CEO said. The counting of votes will be held on March 10.

Polls in UP ‘pro-incumbency’, people fighting for continuation of govt: Modi in Varanasi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday described the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls as “pro-incumbency”, saying the people themselves are fighting for continuation of the government. Addressing an election rally at Khajuri village in Varanasi, the prime minister said that due to their aversion towards him, “dynasts” were make fun of ‘vocal for local’ and the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.    

Even on the Ukraine issue, the opposition is busy doing politics and adding to the people’s woes, Modi said.  In a swipe at the Congress, he said the party which derived political mileage for years from Khadi now hesitates to even take its name. Modi added that his government has made Khadi and yoga international brands.

Varanasi will vote in the last phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on March 7.
