SAMBA : An extension lecture on ‘Environmental Impacts’ was delivered at the Bhargava Degree College, Samba by Dr.Sanjay Sharma, Department of Environmental Science, University of Jammu.
He spoke on the environmental impacts from the point of view of different criterion such as the primary, short term, negative, positive, biological, social, economic, cultural and the health impacts on the sustainability of the human beings if immediate awareness was not spread and steps taken by all including the government agencies. The air, water and noise pollution are at its peak and the Air Quality Index was very poor in several cities of the world. Fresh and clear air is a nightmare for children, the adults and the old who because of in-hailing toxic air were imbibing many diseases. Prof. Sanjay Sharma gave several examples to prove his point.
Dr. Netar Singh, the Principal of the College drew the attention of all towards the change of land use and said that the waters of our rivers at the local level like Tawi, Basantar and Ujh were quite polluted and were harmful for the entire urban and the rural folk. The lecture was followed by an interesting question answer series.
