The state-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) hiked the prices of petrol and diesel for the third day in a row across the country on Saturday, October 16, 2021. Petrol and diesel prices were increased by 35 paise per litre each today, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers.
In the national capital, petrol is retailing at Rs 105.49 per litre, rising to its highest-ever level. The rate of diesel in Delhi has crossed the Rs 94 mark and costs Rs 94.22 per litre.
In India’s financial capital, Mumbai, petrol is available at Rs 111.43 per litre and the price of a litre of diesel is Rs 102.15. The rates of petrol and diesel are the highest in Mumbai among all the four metro cities.
Petrol and diesel prices also soared to new record highs in other metro cities such as Chennai and Kolkata. In Chennai, petrol costs Rs 102.70 per litre and people have to shell out Rs 98.59 for one litre of diesel.
On the other hand, petrol has crossed the Rs 106-per litre mark in Kolkata and is available at Rs 106.10 per litre and diesel is available at Rs 97.33 per litre.
It is to be noted that this is the third straight day of a 35 paise per litre increase in fuel rates. Prices of petrol and diesel remained static on October 4, 12 and 13.
