LEH: Managing Director (MD), National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL), Chanchal Kumar met Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh RK Mathur at Raj Niwas to discuss issues related to its various ongoing projects in Ladakh.
The MD NHIDCL raised various technical challenges and issues faced by them in land acquisition and utility shifting on the Kargil-Zanskar Road and Zojila Tunnel.
While interacting with Chanchal Kumar, the LG appreciated NHIDCL for keeping the Kargil-Padum Road open in the winter. He suggested NHIDCL to facilitate engagement of local contractors and to build their capacity. He also inquired about the process and technologies that can be used to construct roads in Ladakh during the winters.
Chanchal Kumar also inspected the Kargil-Zanskar road and Eastern Portal of Zojjila Tunel at Meenamarg. While interacting with media, Chanchal said that it’s one of the important project of the Government which will be 13 km long tunnel and 18 km long approach road will be constructed at a cost of 4500 crore and the target completion period is 6 years. He said that they have requested the concerned contractor to complete the tunnel before the timeline.
