JAMMU: NSS unit of Govt. College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu under Clean India Campaign, an initiative of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to commemorate Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav- Celebration of India’s 75 years of Independence today conducted an awareness campaign for conservation of water bodies.
On day three of the week-long summer camp NSS volunteers visited and cleaned the water bodies Pond and river in the adopted Village Chak and Diharyn of tehsil Bhalwal.
NSS volunteers with programme officers collected all the litter, plastic and polythene from the banks and lanes surrounding the pond. All the water clogging was removed effectively.
The entire activities were performed by observing all the COVID precautionary measures. They advised the locals that they should not litter near these water bodies, rather they should plant more and more trees in the catchment areas of these water bodies. The volunteers also educated the locals about cleanliness and hygiene and asked them to discourage the practice of open dumping.
The principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Sameru Sharma applauded the sincere efforts of team NSS. She said that the volunteers of the college are doing a tremendous job under the guidance of NSS programme officer Dr. Raman Gupta. They are always ready to do any sort of social work assigned to them.
The NSS programme officer also congratulated all the volunteers for their selfless service and said that they have already played a crucial role during COVID times and now they are playing an important role in society by imparting awareness of various programmes among common masses.
The volunteers who managed and organised the event are Mandeep Singh, Paras Gupta, Nikansh , Sunidhi, Jaanvi, Harshit, Harshdeep and Rakshant.
